project2aSEV in support with KEVA implemented " Geographic and Market Segment Diversification of Electric Vehicles for Employment Generation program " from August to September 2007. 

The major objective of this project was is to assess market viability of EVs in Dharan, Waling and other potential cities to introduce new models of electric vehicles for geographic market diversification and increase its applications.

Activities Highlights
  1. project2bThe project team conducted market exploratory visits and route surveys in Waling, Hetauda, Dharan and Pokhara.
  2. The team carried out meeting with local transport entrepreneurs on possibility of EVs operation.
  3. Half day workshops were conducted on the theme of “Clean Air: Clean Vehicle”. The main objective of the workshop was to bring all the relevant stakeholders at a common forum to discuss over the possibility of EVs operation in these cities .
  4. On the basis of the findings of the survey, a new model of EVs was designed and produced to meet the market need in Dharan.
  5. The local entrepreneurs and other stakeholders were showing their concern over the technical performance of EVs. So, a test drive and technical operation of EVs was carried out in various routes of Hetauda and Dharan. During the test drive it is found that EVs can be operated in the route without any technical problem.
  6. The project team organized press meet for local journalist and coordinated media campaign in local FM radios and local newspaper.
  7. The project team also visited local branches of three national banks namely – Nepal Bangladesh Bank, Nabil Bank and NIC bank. The purpose of the meeting was to build up rapport with Banks and assess their perception and interest over investment in EVs sector.
  8. With an aim to promote environment friendly transport system in tourism sector of Nepal, electric vehicles designed to cater various services to tourist was officially launched on the occasion of World Tourism Day, Sep 27, 2007. On this occasion, a free riding on electric vehicles was organized for tourists who arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport on that day. The program was conducted in coordination with Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Nepal Tourism board and the Explore Nepal. Prior to this event, tourism EVs were displayed for journalists during press meet organized by Nepal tourism board on Sep 24, 2007.
  9. The project team also took part in Auto Show (Sep 27 – Oct 1) organized by Nepal Auto Dealers’ Association at Birendra International Convention Center. Four types of Electric vehicles – tourism, commercial, Dharan model and converted were displayed in the show to aware visitors about second generation EVs in Nepal. Test drive of EVs was also available for interested visitors.
